Everest 2006: Sight On Everest

Hi all you (armchair) mountaineers! The days are getting longer in the Northern Hemisphere and you know what that means: Everest season is coming 
This year 7summits.com/7summits-club.com is back, bigger and better than ever. We have more than 20 climbers in our team and together with our Sherpas, cooks and guides we will have over 70 people on the mountain. There are some very special climbers this year. Some will be announced closer to departure (10th April), but for now I would like to introduce a very special man: Thomas Weber. Thomas will try to be the first climber that summits from Tibet while being visually impaired.
At sealevel Thomas sees reasonably well, but as he gets higher, he gets attacks which cause temporary blurry vision, loss of colours and eventually blindness. This happens more often at high altitude, so on Everest he will be effectively blind.
Of course this is a huge challenge for both Thomas as well as for his support team. Thomas will be privately guided by Harry Kikstra, owner of 7summits.com. Harry is also the expedition leader, together with friend Alex Abramov. 2 Sherpas will accompany Thomas and Harry to the summit.
Also 2 professional filmmakers from the UK/Netherlands will accompany them to 7000m, so we can record everything. We will make a documentary about the climb, which should function as a motivation for all people, whether blind or not. With this climb we want to raise awareness and funding for 2 incredible charities, that have much to do with the (lack of) vision and light.
